D1 Reach Truck – Novice Course

Our D1 Reach Truck Novice Course is designed for candidates who have little or no previous experience operating a Reach Truck.

Training is delivered by qualified instructors at Humber Training & Driver Solutions and is completed to ITSSAR accredited standards, giving candidates the knowledge, practical skills and confidence required to operate a Reach Truck safely and efficiently within a workplace environment.

The D1 category covers rider-operated Reach and Straddle Lift Trucks.

Course Covers:

• Health & Safety responsibilities and relevant legislation
• Introduction to the Reach Truck and its main components
• Understanding the controls and instruments
• Correct mounting and dismounting procedures
• Safe starting, stopping and manoeuvring
• Steering and operating safely within restricted areas
• Understanding Reach Truck stability
• Centre of gravity and load centres
• Safe use of the reach mechanism
• Correct use of hydraulic controls
• Safe load assessment and handling
• Picking up and transporting loads
• Stacking and de-stacking at different heights
• Correct positioning when approaching racking
• Working safely within warehouse racking systems
• Safe operation in narrow and confined areas
• Pre-use inspections and daily safety checks
• Identifying and reporting faults and defects
• Battery charging and safe operating procedures
• Correct parking and shutdown procedures
• Practical Reach Truck operation
• Theory assessment
• Pre-use inspection assessment
• Practical operating assessment

Candidates will receive progressive practical training throughout the course, allowing them to develop their control, accuracy, confidence and understanding of safe Reach Truck operation.

Particular attention is given to safe load handling, correct positioning, use of the reach mechanism and operating safely around warehouse racking.

On successful completion of the training and assessments, candidates will receive ITSSAR accredited certification, with their accredited operator training registered through the appropriate ITSSAR system.
