Powered Pallet Truck (PPT) – Novice Course

Our Powered Pallet Truck (PPT) Novice Course is designed for candidates who have little or no previous experience operating a Powered Pallet Truck.

Training is delivered by qualified instructors at Humber Training & Driver Solutions and is completed to ITSSAR accredited standards, giving candidates the knowledge, practical skills and confidence required to operate Powered Pallet Trucks safely and efficiently within a workplace environment.

Powered Pallet Trucks are commonly used within warehouses, distribution centres, factories, loading areas and logistics operations for the safe movement of palletised goods.

• Health & Safety responsibilities and relevant legislation
• Introduction to the Powered Pallet Truck
• Understanding the main components of the equipment
• Understanding and correct use of controls
• Pre-use inspections and daily safety checks
• Identifying and reporting faults and defects
• Safe starting and stopping procedures
• Safe steering and manoeuvring
• Operating within confined and restricted areas
• Pedestrian awareness and workplace hazards
• Safe travelling procedures
• Understanding stability and load centres
• Assessing loads before movement
• Correct positioning of forks
• Safely picking up palletised loads
• Transporting loads safely
• Correct placement and depositing of loads
• Operating safely on appropriate gradients and surfaces
• Awareness of loading bays and other workplace hazards
• Battery safety and charging procedures where applicable
• Correct parking and shutdown procedures
• Practical Powered Pallet Truck operation
• Theory assessment
• Pre-use inspection assessment
• Practical operating assessment

Candidates receive progressive practical training throughout the course, allowing them to develop their control, observation, accuracy and confidence when operating a Powered Pallet Truck.

Particular attention is given to safe manoeuvring, pedestrian awareness, load handling and ensuring candidates understand the risks associated with operating Powered Pallet Trucks within busy warehouse and workplace environments.

On successful completion of the training and assessments, candidates will receive ITSSAR accredited certification, with their accredited operator training registered through the appropriate ITSSAR system.
