Aim

This course aims to provide delegates with the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence required to operate an Order Picker Truck safely, efficiently, and in accordance with current legislation, manufacturer’s instructions, and recognised industry best practice.

By the end of the course, successful delegates will be able to demonstrate safe operating techniques, carry out effective pre-use inspections, and perform order picking operations competently within a warehouse or distribution environment.

Understand their legal responsibilities as an operator, including duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and PUWER
Identify key components, functions, and limitations of an Order Picker Truck through full machine familiarisation
Carry out thorough daily and pre-use safety checks, including defect identification and reporting procedures
Safely operate controls, instrumentation, and safety systems, including emergency features
Apply correct steering, travelling, and manoeuvring techniques, particularly in narrow aisles and confined spaces
Accurately assess load weights, load centres, and rated capacities to ensure safe lifting and handling
Safely lift, carry, and place loads at various heights during order picking operations
Work safely within racking systems, including accessing and placing loads at height
Confidently handle awkward, unstable, or irregular loads
Carry out safe vehicle loading and unloading operations, where applicable
Follow correct refuelling and battery charging procedures in line with site rules and manufacturer guidance
